U of A Researcher Looking for Help From Residents
My name is Marcus Jackson and I am a MSc in Medicine student at the University of Alberta. I am currently studying the relationship between the built environment and the health and well being of older adults.
I have identified Blackburne as one of my research sites and I am requesting your assistance in the recruitment of older adults from your community. I understand your organization regularly engages with older adults living in the community. As a result, I believe your expertise would be extremely beneficial to the recruitment process. With your potential help, I anticipate my research will identify ways to enhance Blackburne's built environment that positively contributes to the health and wellbeing of its citizens.
Currently I am looking for 3-4 older adult participants (65 years of age or older) from your neighbourhood to partake in my photo voice research project. Over the course of 2 weeks, participants will be lent a camera to take pictures of neighbourhood design features in their community that they believe positively or negatively impacts their health and well being. Once the pictures are taken, we will have a focus group to talk about the importance of them.
I am hoping to recruit participants as soon as possible through the circulation of information, both through printed posters/weekly e-letters, and/or in-person information sessions, at your facility. I have attached the recruitment poster to this email, and during the in-person information session I will be able to speak on the inclusionary criteria, responsibilities of the participant and the researcher (myself), and anticipated timeline. Participation in this research is voluntary, identifiable information will be removed, and personal information will be kept confidential.
Thank you for your consideration in assisting me in the research process. I look forward to hearing from you soon about the potential partnership. I would love the opportunity to speak to you about this project, or if you have any questions are concerns. I can be reached at mrjackso@ualberta.ca or 780-387-8347.
