While the HOA is happy to share information with members, we can not endorse any company or product and instead encourage our neighbours to exercise due diligence and review prior to investing in products or services for your home. With that being said, we have received the following recommendations and information from our members:

Roofing

The spring rain will be welcome, but may have some of you worrying about leaking roofs.  We have heard from some residents that roofing companies are able to use drones to take pictures of your roof to better assess and suggest maintenance to increase the longevity and integrity of your roof. 

• Dwight’s roofing – may consider a group purchase discount.  They would need interested owners to contact them to arrange a drone survey ($250 but this price is deducted from the bill if you proceed with roofing)

• Sargeant – will provide a 10% discount on labour costs if 3 or more residents from our community sign up for their services

• Reid’s roofing – this business has sponsored community activities in Blackburne in the past.  Our understanding is that they may provide a discount if there are a minimum of 10 homes that wish to purchase their services however the % of discount will depend on their assessment of the scope of the work.

• Advanced Roofing Systems – will not commit to group discounts.  They advised that they purchase directly from the mill and therefore provide better pricing.

• EE clean-up is an Edmonton based company that is bringing cleaning and sealing of wood roofing to the Edmonton area.  This may improve the appearance as well as the longevity of your roof in protecting your home and they will provide guarantees of 5 – 10 years depending on the state of your roof once the cleaning, sealing and replacement of some shakes/shingles is completed. EE works in collaboration with Dwight’s Roofing. The Edge condo complex in our community had a small test area cleaned in late July.  This can be viewed from the street if you would like to see for yourself (225 Blackburn Dr East) or see our website/social media post for a photo

• In the fall of 2023, Shaw Roof Consulting provided a presentation for our neighbours to help us to better understand the important considerations for cedar roofs; in particular that the installation is just as important as the quality of the material that is used. Roofing inspectors may be able to independently assess and support you in your efforts to ensure your home is well protected.  

Windows and Doors

The HOA recently received positive feedback from a homeowner about their experience with HomeTech Windows and Doors - hometechwidows.ca.  They were reportedly excellent to deal with and supported them in sourcing replacement parts for an original patio door.
