I have had concerns from several residents recently regarding the member’s only portal. Specifically, they were concerned that though they live in this community they are not able to access the member’s only portal, as they are not members of the Home Owner’s Association.
I completely understand your desire to be positive and active members of the community. This is what the current board wants as well! We will continue to provide information relevant to all of our neighbours on the public facing website regarding community clean up events, block parties, etc. We will soon be doing a neighbourhood wide call for all residents (not just HOA members) who are interested in joining a volunteer pool where we can work together for the betterment of our community. Of note, we may be looking to form a working group to look at speeding in our neighbourhood - please keep this in mind if you are interested and share other suggestions as well.
Please know that the members only portal is primarily being used to post previous HOA board meeting minutes and financials. We have also moved some of the legal disputes and documentation related to this to the members only portal as well. We had received feedback from some realtors that having this information on a public facing website had a negative impact on those who may be considering buying into the area and we wanted to limit this impact. We anticipate that there may be some HOA members that will be hesitant to have previous board minutes and financial information posted to the website and we hope to limit this response through use of the secured portal.
Sadly, I am not privy to the previous discussions or legal support that resulted in omitting non encumbered home owners from donating to the HOA for community events or from attending meetings. This is certainly an area that I would like to better understand and look at possible solutions.
Our new board is currently facing many challenges. As soon as we are through some of these hurdles, we will discuss strategies to best include our non-encumbered neighbours in the community with our new board. I hope you will all continue to access updates on the website in the meantime.
