Sign of the Times
The restoration of the community sign on the south side of Blackburn Drive was a great example of how volunteerism works so well.
Longtime resident Guenther Moellenbeck (left in the photo below and on the main page of our site) was asked if he could take on the sign project, because of previous work he had done on the sign at the playground next to the gazebo. He called upon his able “apprentice’ Guy Luke to give him a hand and before the job was done, the two of them had help on the project from Guenther’s next door neighbour Jack Fife and a friend of Guenther’s Herb Koch, who sprayed the final coat of varnish on the sign.
It should come as no surprise that Moellenbeck and Luke tackled the project with gusto. The two of them, along with their wives, are previous winners of the Volunteer of the Year Award in Blackburne Creek.
The sign is a partnership of the homeowner’s association and the Blackmud Creek Community League. It was erected several years ago and as the photos to the right show, it was badly in needed of repair. The top photo was taken last year and the one below was shot after the restoration was done.
Look for information on the sign in the coming weeks about the September 14 Community Party, the November 4 Annual General Meeting and other issues.
Thanks to Guenther, Guy, Jack and Herb for their hard work!
